New adventures– a fall recap!

by | Dec 12, 2025

So much has happened in the last few months, so here’s a recap!

In June, I retired from full-time teaching. Yes, I miss my job as a Literacy Coach and my daily contact with students! But I love having more time for writing, and for…

leading poetry workshops in local schools! Earlier this fall, I was guest speaker at the Family Literacy Night at Orleans Elementary School, where I spoke about “Poetry Power!” I’ve led poetry workshops at Eddy Elementary School in Brewster, and I’ll soon be heading to Wellfleet Elementary, and zooming into a school in Georgia– in the Atlantic metro area!  You can find out more about my school visits here.

I have two books in the works (and a third book contract signed but not announced yet!). Next October, my first book will be out! TRUCKS,  BOOTS, AND BELLS: FIREHOUSE POEMS, published by Holiday House, is a playful celebration of the tools, tasks, and teamwork of firefighting. To get in the mood, I visited my father’s old firehouse in the South Bronx, Engine 71. It was so good to see it again!

I also had the chance to meet the illustrator of TRUCKS, BOOTS, AND BELLS– Aaron Marin. This book is going to be amazing!

For now, I am scheming new ideas, dreaming up new plans, writing, and still presenting to children. All of those things make me happy. As 2025 draws to a close, I wish you all the things that make you happy– and time for some rest, too!
